We partnered with Kim from day one to help build Knead Pizzeria from the ground up - developing the name, brand identity, digital presence, and marketing strategy to help them launch fast and with impact. In just four weeks, we crafted a modern and charming identity that helped Knead hit the ground running, drawing in locals and tourists alike to their Henley Beach pizzeria.

PROJECT GOAL

Create a fresh and memorable brand for a new coastal pizzeria, leaning into modern hospitality trends and embracing a bold, personality-driven aesthetic to match Kim’s passion for authentically Italian, wood-fired sourdough pizza.

CHALLENGE

We needed Knead to stand out in a heavily saturated space and to make it feel genuinely different, even if we are leaning into modern hospitality trends. Being based in Henley Beach, surrounded by cool tones and ocean blues, the brand needed to cut through visually while feeling warm, welcoming, and fun.

On top of that, the timeline was tight: one month to name the business, develop the brand identity, build the website, and roll out marketing campaigns across social platforms.

SOLUTION

We brainstormed a few name options but focused on the name Knead - a punchy, playful nod to pizza-making that felt fresh, while connecting with their USP - their signature 72-hour fermented sourdough bases. The visual identity centres around a palette of olive green and burnt orange, steering clear of the red-and-white trap common for pizza places and contrasting beautifully against Henley’s beachside blues.

At the heart of the branding is a set of hand-drawn illustrations we created in-house of a charismatic Italian man, complete with a mullet and mo combo. An expressive, endearing character that adds a layer of storytelling and personality across touchpoints, this human touch flows through their menus, signage, and online presence.

We designed an eye-catching, mobile-friendly landing page focused on quick access to the menu and ordering information, with plans to give space to highlight Kim’s story and Knead’s unique sourdough pizzas. Across social media, we rolled out a bold, graphic-driven approach featuring professional MILCO photos, consistent branding, and our custom illustrations to build hype before the official opening.

OUTCOME

Knead Pizzeria opened to a flurry of attention, thanks to a distinct and creative brand identity, scroll-stopping visuals, and a lead-up campaign that built interest before the doors even opened. The business launched within four weeks and continues to grow its presence as one of Henley Beach’s most talked-about new food spots.
